Subduction Zone
Could be.
Oregon is exposing roots
Sitka Spruce suggest subduction
and core samples show some
trees were 6000 years old before
change
from a clash.

Active Elements.
we were proud
of our learning
Mistaken in
a slipery short span of 300 years since
that area of the Pacific Coast shook

While I think of my husband's smooth hands
I turn to this anomaly
in Sunset magazine's pages
between recipes for curried cous cous
and poached pear.

Three cockatoos,
my companions,
on one checkered couch.

One wanting to be held,
One wanting to mate,
One wanting to cluck cluck about his day:
being in the cage too long
wings jutting out to make points
his head bobbing bobbing
too passionate for politics
suited for religion's pulpits for our fragile misguided
Faith.
